Harmony & QuickNode: Scaling Decentralization
Harmony is a high-performance EVM-based blockchain with low gas fees and two-second block finality.
August 15th, 2022 — QuickNode, the leading Web3 cloud platform for building blockchain-powered applications, today announces the expansion of its ecosystem with the launch of Harmony support on its platform. QuickNode’s mission is to support and service the developer community, and adding Harmony support helps achieve that mission by giving developers access to one of the fastest-growing ecosystems in the web3 space.
Harmony is an open and fast blockchain. Our mainnet runs Ethereum applications with 2-second transaction finality and 100 times lower fees. Our secure bridges offer cross-chain transfers with Ethereum, Binance, and 3 other chains — Harmony Website
Harmony is a smart contracts platform, home to many decentralized applications. It is EVM compatible, which means you can use the same Solidity code that you used for an Ethereum dApp and deploy it onto Harmony with no changes. Harmony boasts an incredibly low transaction finality and transaction fees that are a fraction of Ethereum Mainnet.
Harmony has a fully scalable architecture and works under a secure, random sharding model, where network validators are randomly chosen and distributed among various shards. This randomness algorithm is battle-tested, unbiased, and highly scalable. Similar to other EVM-compatible, eco-friendly chains, Harmony runs a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus model.
They have adapted the PoS algorithm to help combat staking centralization. This method is EPoS, or Effective Proof-of-Stake, where the more tokens you stake in the system, the more hardware you are required to maintain. This has enabled Harmony to scale to over 1,000 nodes currently — 80% of which are maintained by the community.
How to Get Started with Harmony on QuickNode:
1. Sign up for an account on QuickNode.com
2. Click “Create an endpoint” and select "Harmony" and whichever network you wish then click on "Continue:"
3. Archive data is included for free with each plan for Harmony on QuickNode. Simply select the most appropriate plan based on your use-case. If you're trying Harmony out for the first time, our Discover plan is free and great for development, sandbox, and testing.
4. Woohoo! You now have access to a powerful QuickNode Harmony node.
